Staffy: what a healthcare staffing marketplace teaches about AI

Peter Faist founded Staffy and Kin-etiq.ai, and he is Staffy's CEO. Staffy is a related company, so this is not a client result. Staffy's own team builds its products. We include it because Staffy is where Kin-etiq.ai's founder learned what software has to do in regulated work.

What is Staffy?

Staffy connects healthcare organizations with professionals looking for shifts. Facilities post what they need, and professionals pick shifts that fit their role, location and availability. Peter launched Staffy in Toronto in 2015 to fill shifts in hospitality. During the COVID pandemic he moved it into healthcare, with a vetting process for healthcare credentials.

What software does Staffy run?

Salus is Staffy's credential management product, sold at salus.staffy.com. Employees upload and update their own credentials. The system stores the documents, tracks expiry dates and sends alerts. It checks licences and registrations and shows compliance status across locations. A facility sets its own roles and requirements.

Staffy also runs its own internal tools: its internal chat tool, Signal, and HealthDesk, a desk for messages, tasks and reminders. Staffy's developers build and run them.

What does this mean for a regulated business buying AI?

Credential work shows the difference between reading a fact and acting on it. Reading an expiry date from a document is one task. Deciding whether a person may work a shift is another, with a person accountable for it. A good system treats an unclear reading as something to resolve, never as permission to act.

If your business handles credentials or health information, start with one workflow: the documents involved, the decision they support, and the person accountable. Our answer on Ontario's health privacy law (PHIPA) and AI covers the review, and our guide to AI for staffing agencies covers where AI helps in this field.
